about

Entangled Ecologies (E2) is less a fixed framework than a live inquiry: a commitment to thinking-with the messy, contested, existential and ecological complexities of life on this planet.

E2 is a platform for applied cosmoecological research. It starts from an unsettling premise: ecological questions are never only ecological. They are political, existential and cosmological at once, because every being lives with the consequences of how others live and die.

“Ecology and cosmology are knotted in a common story, forming a cosmoecology of multiple beings, gods, animals, humans, living, and dead, each bearing the consequences of the others’ ways of living and dying” (Despret and Meuret 2016).

I work across disciplines and outside them, through local projects, case studies, essays, art, music and interviews. The method is pragmatic. Ideas are judged by what they do, in an age when the consequences of bad ones are already arriving.

I’m also inspired by anthropologist Arturo Escobar’s (2020) proposition that “realities are plural and always in the making, and that this has profound political consequences.” My commitment is solidarity with life itself. Many life-worlds share one planet, and the dominant systems of our time are degrading the conditions all of them depend on.

E2 studies how communities, human and otherwise, adapt, repair and cultivate at the edges of those systems, and attempts to be useful to the ones doing that work.

What gathers here is an open archive of that learning: unfinished, revisable and intended for use.
